Mizan is a fruit holder which is inspired by the Rehal, which is a book holder used by the Muslims when reading the Quran. In the Islamic context, Mizan refers to balance and justice. Both aspects of Mizan and Rehal are reflected on this design with its elegant outlines accompanied with a symmetrical outlook which shows the existence of balance. A combination of plywood and aluminium sheet was chosen for the overall construction to show the contrast between the usage of natural and synthetic materials. Mizan is made up of four identical modules which could be inter-connected via magnets. Fruits such as apples or oranges could be stacked and placed along the gaps between the modules. This fruit holder could also be easily disassembled for cleaning or storage purposes. The overall usage of materials and design gives it an extra-ordinary outlook as a fruit holder.
